In the late 1960s, he meets three struggling musicians and offers them a deal: their souls in exchange for fame, wealth, and the ability to make the world better. The trio help the Devil push his favored nation toward civilization—or so he believes. However, John Scratch still has much to learn about humanity, despite his many millennia among them. The novel combines imagination, originality, insight, and humor with history and myth, presenting a clever and entertaining journey.
