About this book

Tool of War is the third book in Paolo Bacigalupi's adventure series, set in a climate-changed future. The novel follows Tool, a half-man/half-beast character created for combat who appeared in the earlier novels Ship Breaker and The Drowned Cities. Tool has broken away from his pack of bioengineered augments and now leads a group of human soldier boys. However, he is being hunted by someone who knows a critical secret: Tool has discovered how to resist the genetic programming that compels submission and loyalty to his masters. As Tool's pursuer closes in, he prepares for war against those who enslaved him. The story explores the relationships between hunter and prey, master and enslaved, and human and monster.
