The Brave New World Collection: Brave New World and Brave New World Revisited

This volume combines two works by Aldous Huxley: his dystopian novel and a collection of essays written nearly three decades later. Brave New World is set five hundred years in the future in a rigidly stratified society where humans are bred for specific roles, from intellectual Alphas to manual laborers called Epsilons. Citizens are kept content and secure through the freely distributed drug soma. When two outsiders are brought into this ordered world from beyond its borders, the stability of the system begins to fracture. The Modern Library named Brave New World one of the 100 best English-language novels of the twentieth century. It is considered one of the first truly dystopian novels and explores the tension between progress and human nature. Brave New World Revisited consists of essays Huxley wrote in 1958, comparing the real world of that time to the future he had imagined in the early 1930s. The essays address topics including world population, drugs, subliminal suggestion, and totalitarianism, examining how his early science fiction concepts related to contemporary reality.
