She copes with her difficult life through horror movies, particularly those featuring masked killers seeking revenge. When murders begin occurring in Indian Lake, Jade narrates the town's history as if it were one of these films, predicting how events will unfold. Beneath the surface narrative lies a critique of American colonialism, Indigenous displacement, and gentrification.
