AIDS, Intimacy and Care in Rural KwaZulu-Natal: A Kinship of Bones (Care & Welfare)

This book examines how HIV/AIDS became integrated into the lives of residents in Okhahlamba, a mountainous region of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Drawing on fieldwork conducted between 2003 and 2006, Henderson documents the disease's impact on both adults and children, and describes the various ways community members responded to the crisis. The study emphasizes informal care provided by family members and volunteers during the period before anti-retroviral drugs were accessible. Henderson also explores how the community's experience changed following the introduction of these medications.
